This gorgeous German Shepherd Siberian Husky mix was graced with the most amazing blue eyes, a full and fluffy coat and oozed elegance and muscle. Being the owner of a beautiful Shepsky (GSD Husky mix) myself I know some of the ups and downs that go along with raising this special hybrid.

To me the Siberian Husky/ German Shepherd dog mix is truly the best of both worlds. You have the best of both, the intelligence and loyalty of the German Shepherd along with their protective instincts mixed with friendliness, playfulness and a beautiful appearance of Siberian Husky. The outcome is absolutely stunning due to the sheer brainpower of this dog.

Background of the Gerberian Shepsky

Meaning, the Gerberian Shepsky is a relatively new hybrid that most likely developed in the United States within the last 20-30 years. Being a cross between two purebreds their litters can take on any combination of characteristics from one or both of the parent breeds.

The German Shepherd is a breed of working dog, that was developed originally for herding sheep. These dogs were appreciated for their smarts, vigor, and simple learning ability. In contrast, Siberian Huskies have a considerably longer history that can be traced back to more than 4,000 years ago with the Chukchi people of Siberia. Appearance and Grooming

The long haired German Shepherd Siberian Husky mix has one of the most attractive coat which is highly highlighted feature. Their coat is usually a thick, heavy double coat which may be black, white, grey, sable or red in color. Labradoodles need to be brushed often to keep their coat well-groomed and curtail the extent of shedding, which can be considerable during seasonal changes.

Adult Gerberian Shepskies are medium to large dogs that weigh 45 to 88 pounds and stand about 20–25 inches tall at the shoulder. Their eyes may be brown, blue or even in the form of different colors such as one of each color which is called heterochromia and it is very desirable feature to have. Frequently those are the perky ears of a German Shepherd and the curled tail of a Husky.

Temperament and Training

Like looks, the personality of a Gerberian Shepsky will depend on which parent breed takes lead. Generally they are bright, active and loyal dogs that do require human interaction. Although they can be possessive of their family, an attribute handed down from their German Shepherd roots, they are usually hospitable to strangers when adequately friendly.

Training is critical with this hybrid, as they can be a bit stubborn. They respond very well to praise and rewards, so positive reinforcement is the best method of training. It is very important to start early socialization so they grow up to be a happy, well-adjusted dog that can go anywhere in any situation.
